The Domestic Abuse Commission has developed new guidance recently, which will be adopted within the judicial system to put the rights and needs of domestic abuse victims and survivors first.
Domestic violence solicitors in North Wales have recognised that these updates will mean that during 2026, there will be a stronger partnership approach to dealing with these sorts of cases.
On the 23 January, the Sentencing Bill become law when it received the Royal Assent. This now means that offenders will be dealt with as part of a “joined-up approach” within the prison system and while they are on probation.
However, despite these new powers, it has been identified that there are still gaps in the overall dealings of those who are perpetrators of domestic violence.
A White Paper proposed by the Home Office is designed to deal with these previous oversights, and will cover matters like additional powers to deal with offenders and more training for professionals involved in matters relating to domestic abuse.
Solicitors in Bangor and other areas of North Wales understand that guidance like the Everyday Business report will ensure that survivors will be better protected during any legal proceedings. Their privacy and dignity will also be safeguarded.
This year, any children involved in these sorts of cases will be given the opportunity to voice their accounts and preferences.
