Studies have shown that, year on year, there has been a shocking rise in the number of domestic abuse cases in the United Kingdom.
The most recent statistics have shown that almost 4,000,000 people experienced domestic abuse and violence, and most of these were female. It has also been revealed that most acts of violence were committed by ex-partners. Using a domestic violence solicitor in North Wales allows a client to access up to date advice and guidance on this matter.
According to the charity, Women’s Aid, virtually all male perpetrators are known to their female victims. As a result of these alarming numbers, the government commissioned a report called the Freedom from Violence and Abuse Strategy. The aim of the report is to look at methodologies for reducing the number of incidents of domestic abuse, and includes education initiatives to combat misogynistic views in young people, as well as providing safe spaces for victims.
The Crown Prosecution Service has, in line with the release of this report, issued its own guidance on how cases should be defined as those of domestic violence, whilst simultaneously placing the safety of the victims at the heart of the proceedings. Additional support for victims must also be sought from the beginning to ensure they are heard and their needs are integrated into the case.
