A new group made up of barristers and solicitors who specialise in family law has been launched, with the aim of making arbitration services more accessible.
This organisation has been given the name the Family Law Arbitration Group (FLAG) and it is a loose network of barristers and solicitors based in Wales and England. The idea behind it is to make families with legal disputes more aware of arbitration services, as an alternative to the courts. FLAG is also intended to offer support to family law solicitors in North Wales and England.
Rebecca Hawkins is the woman who set up FLAG. She works for the Family Solutions Now arbitration service, which is located in Havant. Speaking to Today’s Family Lawyer about the new group, Hawkins said:
“We all believe that arbitration should be a more mainstream option within the family justice system, not a niche remedy reserved for those in the know.”
All of the professionals who are part of the group are also members of Resolution. Furthermore, they all have the CIArb qualification needed to help resolve family law cases.
FLAG is committed to the highest industry standards and to raising awareness of the benefits of arbitration. It has pointed out that many people do not currently understand what arbitration is and how they can gain from it, financially and personally.
The group will be creating resources that both the general public and other solicitors in the field can make use of.
