The latest survey has found that many people see little point in making a Will due to a lack of assets.
Will Aid commissioned this survey and close to 2,000 people took part. What it reveals is that 67% either have no Will or an old one they no longer consider accurate. A total of 10% have a Will that does not fit with their current desires, while 57% do not have any sort of legal Will and have never had one.
Another 44% told the survey that getting a Will made was not something they were likely to do in the next 12 months. However, the most striking finding from the survey was the main reason for this apathy. Also, 29% of those without a Will stated they had nothing of value for anyone to inherit.
Peter de Vena Franks from Will Aid told Today’s Wills and Probate that people were wrong to feel this way. He added that even those without valuable estates should seek the help of Will writing solicitors in North Wales or elsewhere.
He then said:
“You may have children whose future you want to protect, possessions with enormous sentimental value, pets you want cared for or very clear wishes about who should – and should not – benefit from your estate.”
Other reasons cited were a lack of time and money (19%), and how hard the process would be (14%).
