New research has found that women are significantly less likely to seek professional help with estate administration.
This is the finding of a survey by YouGov. It spoke to 1,200 people, of whom half had experienced bereavement in the last five years. The responses show that women are much less inclined to let professionals handle the administration of an estate. A total of 56% of the women who took part in the survey said they had completed this work themselves. By comparison, the percentage of men who did the same was just 43%.
This gender disparity is alarming, because taking on estate administration while grieving adds to the emotional strain. Probate solicitors in North Wales or England are trained to take care of this burden for people.
Among the estate tasks that female respondents did in higher numbers were contacting insurance companies, pension providers, local authorities, utility firms, and banks.
Over half of those women who took on estate administration stated that they did not receive enough support from their employer. In total, 53% said that, compared with 33% of men.
