A new survey has uncovered evidence of widespread tensions between separated parents when it comes to holiday arrangements.
This survey was by Slater & Gordon and 2,000 divorced or separated parents took part in it. Around 50% of them stated that planning for summer holidays was a regular cause of tensions and conflict between them. These parents also admitted they knew the battles with their former spouse over holidays were having a detrimental impact on their children.
One quarter of the parents surveyed said the tensions were so severe that it led to planned holidays being scrapped. Meanwhile, 55% stated planning for summer holidays was a source of stress for them.
These are concerning findings that point to unresolved problems between former partners. Talking to separation solicitors in North Wales could help, as they are trained in negotiating solutions to such conflicts.
Andrew Ormrod works at Slater & Gordon. He told Today’s Family Lawyer the survey spotlights real difficulties for many divorced or separated parents. He then added:
“From a legal perspective, the needs of the children are the foremost priority in these situations. Their happiness and wellbeing should be central to any decision, including holiday arrangements.”
Ormrod concluded by saying conflicts are often caused by leaving holiday planning very late. Therefore, it is best for parents to talk to each other as early as possible.
