Thanks to findings from Richard Nelson LLP, divorce solicitors in North Wales may be able to understand that there are regional differences and a wide range of reasons why couples are divorcing.
During the first six months of 2025, in the United Kingdom there were almost 38,000 divorces. One of the most common reasons for a divorce this year is when one or both partners have been unfaithful, though this has consistently been the main reason for divorce for many years. Almost one third of marriages in 2025, so far, have ended because of adultery. Another common reason so far in 2025, is the more generalised ‘growing apart’.
Timescales have also been recorded this year, and they have shown that nearly a quarter of married couples choose to get divorced before reaching their nine-year wedding anniversary. One of the hardest parts of divorcing, recorded by interviewing couples going through this process, was informing their children what was happening.
Solicitors in Porthmadog have noticed this year that most divorcing couples have not previously prepared a pre-nuptial agreement. A very small percentage had a document of this nature, and even the ones that did have one had made specific provisions on how to deal with their divorce and assets, prevented them from having to go to court.
