Read postA report has been published that looks at what the future may hold for companies in the Welsh legal industry.
It is called ‘Welsh Legal Sector Transformation Report 2026’ and highlights priorities, dreams and difficulties of those within that sector. The research was undertaken by Osprey Approach, a company that provides software for the law industry, and Legal News Wales. Over 50 different solicitors in North Wales and the rest of the country took part, and 96% of those who replied work in senior roles.
Among the things they were asked about were technology, recruitment, growth and how the industry is changing. 47% of the companies stated they expect to grow during the upcoming year. This is despite 67% currently not experiencing growth.
Bringing in and retaining the brightest legal talent was considered to be the top challenge. 100% of the companies said that finding people qualified in areas like Probate and family law was difficult. However, the level of difficulty ranged from severe to moderate.
Technology was cited as the main area of opportunity. 27% of law firms in Wales view the likes of AI as technology that can help them.
Amy Bruce from Osprey Approach told Today’s Family Lawyer:
“Something that struck us most in this research is how many firms are sitting on more capable technology than they give themselves credit for. The gap we kept seeing wasn’t capability, it was clarity.”
