A website has been launched that enables members of the public to conduct free searches for suitable solicitors.
This website is called LawStreet and its listings include every practicing company in Wales and England. In addition to providing the entire register of companies on the Solicitors Regulation Authority, LawStreet also has valuable information about legal aid. The creators of the site worked with the Legal Aid agency to make it easy for people to locate the 1,800 companies that provide legal aid services. Therefore, anyone who qualifies for it can quickly identify a suitable solicitor.
In total, nearly 9,000 companies are listed on the site. Users can choose to search by company name, region, town or postcode. They can also search according to 23 different areas of practice. LawStreet includes tax, Probate, conveyancing, and family law solicitors in North Wales and England.
Another positive aspect of the site is that the search engine sorts results based on relevance rather than size. Thus, smaller firms specialising in a particular legal area will be ranked alongside large national companies.
The co-founder of LawStreet is Johan Grefstad. Speaking to Today’s Wills and Probate, he said:
“Access to justice starts with knowing who can actually help you. Legal aid and general firm data have always lived apart, and nothing brought them together accurately enough to accurately reflect live or active contracts. LawStreet does.”
