Resolution Together: the rise of one lawyer divorces

It is becoming more common for divorce solicitors in North Wales to act for both parties in “one couple, one lawyer” divorces (alternatively named Resolution Together).

This is a change from the traditional approach of each person using their own legal representation. Although this initiative was originally introduced in 2023, it has gained more popularity recently.

It is a holistic approach to divorce, and it is anticipated that it will reduce the number of disputes and conflicts during the separation process. Child arrangements can also be agreed on without the more traditional mediation routes.

Many solicitors in North Wales have already adopted this approach to divorce and offer joint appointments to discuss the issues in hand. It has been estimated that in the first few months of 2025, online searches for information about this model of divorcing have risen by almost 40 percent.

It is widely acknowledged as a more affordable way to divorce, which is especially appealing during the current cost of living crisis. Since many law courts are facing significant case backlogs, the Resolution Together model allows couples to make their own rules and come to resolutions that work for them, without the intervention of a judge.
