Majority of Brits have not made a Will

New research indicates that the majority of people in the UK have not made up a Will.

Financial advice company The Private Office conducted this research and it used data taken from several sources, including the government. What this data shows is that 56% of adults in the UK do not have a Will made up right now. Among those who are aged between 50 and 64, the figure is 53%. This is particularly concerning, as the need for a Will becomes more acute as people get older.

The fact that so many people are failing to contact Will writing solicitors in North Wales or England is part of a wider neglect of estate planning. A recent survey revealed that 76% of adults have not made any arrangements for the distribution of digital assets. This comes at a time when digital banking is used by 91% of them.

Dean McSloy from The Private Office spoke to Today’s Wills and Probate. He said that conversations about these subjects often make people uncomfortable and this leads to avoidance. He then added that the unintended consequence of this is uncertainty and worry for loved ones after we die.

McSloy concluded by saying:

“When a family is already dealing with the loss of someone they love, having to untangle their financial affairs or discover that arrangements weren’t quite what they thought can make an already difficult time even harder.”
