A review of family law cases in 2024 has thrown up some interesting statistics about divorce and separation that solicitors dealing in family law in North Wales have found particularly useful.
The information from last year may help legal experts to gauge the potential trends in 2025 and design their service to meet these needs.
For example, there has been a rise in the number of financial issues during divorce procedures. It has become relatively common for one or both parties to hide their assets in the hope they can retain their wealth themselves. In many of these cases, the usual process of completing Form E was not carried out properly, though one of the most common excuses for this was a mere ‘oversight’.
Another interesting trend was the increase in divorce cases involving older people, often in their fifties and sixties. Many of these divorces have resulted in acrimony and this has been largely due to the division of assets often accumulated during these longer marriages. With the growth of accessible technology, separation solicitors in North Wales have noticed more cases of voice and video recording which have been carried out without the knowledge of the individual being recorded. It is anticipated throughout 2025 and beyond, more pre-nuptial agreements will be made as people seek to protect their estates in the event of a divorce.
