Changes to paperwork associated with civil partnerships have been recently introduced.
Although civil partnership relationships have been recognised for many years, a need was identified to ensure that the processes were updated and streamlined. Solicitors in Bangor and other areas of the UK can now inform those who are affected on the details of the Registration of Marriages and Civil Partnerships (Registration Provisions)(Amendments) Regulations 2025.
One of the main changes recently made was that of the amendments to the forms and documents that need to be completed to register the civil partnership. Older paperwork has been replaced by those called Form 1 and Form 2, and the purpose of these changes is to make the registration process more efficient, accommodating the different people likely to enter into this partnership – especially for individuals who are currently in detention.
For those in prison, solicitors in North Wales will be able to advise that the new changes must now include a statement outlining the conditions of their sentence. This must be completed by someone trusted in authority who has intimate knowledge of the individual. This information has been added to Form 1 (regulation 2(a)).
Although most of these changes appear to be merely administrative in nature, the intention is to align the forms to recent legislative changes and to ensure clarification is captured for those in detention.
