A new survey of homebuyers in the UK has found that regular communication from conveyancers is one of their top priorities.
This survey was conducted by Lyons Bowe and spoke to people who purchased a home during the past two years. The key finding was that they value swift and regular communications from their solicitors. 68% of those who took part in it stated they expected a response to an opening enquiry within one working day. Another 63% felt the solicitor should confirm they had opened the file within the same amount of time.
A single working day was the deadline that 61% set for those handling conveyancing in North Wales or England to confirm receipt of the relevant papers and ID. This is a clear indication that solicitors must be prepared to reply promptly during conveyancing.
It is not just in the early stages that buyers expect this either. 75% of those surveyed said solicitors should get back to them inside one day when they ask for updates. Meanwhile, 30% stated that requests for progress updates should be answered within the same day.
The survey also asked buyers how frequently they think solicitors should update them. 52% said this should happen every week, regardless of what progress has been made. If problems arise during the conveyancing process, 81% of respondents said they should be informed as soon as possible.
