Amendments to the official guidance on how to handle cases involving victims of domestic abuse came into force in the first quarter of this year. Although many of the updates are designed to directly support the victims, the updates have also been useful for domestic violence solicitors in North Wales.
One of the main reasons why it became necessary to change the original guidance was to bring consistency across the country when cases of domestic and sexual abuse are dealt with by the criminal justice system. It is also anticipated that the changes will offer continuing progress towards addressing the growing trend for violence against girls and women in the UK.
Advice will be provided to victims on how to use the services of solicitors in Porthmadog and other areas of North Wales to support their case, and to help them understand the court proceedings and processes. It is anticipated that this will help victims come forward to press charges and hopefully get the justice they deserve. Another expected benefit of the new guidance is the provision of support and protection for those coming forward.
In 2026, further guidance will be published to address the matter of stalking. This will prove to be an invaluable source of information for not only legal advisors, but also for charities and other organisations that support victims of domestic abuse.
