Statistics recently released by the HM Courts and Tribunal Service have revealed the latest timescales for probate to be completed.
Probate solicitors in North Wales have recognised the different lengths of time it takes to go through Probate depending on whether the application is done online or whether a paper application is submitted.
The current average wait times for the Probate process is four weeks via online applications, and up to 15 weeks for the more traditional, paper-based requests. It is worth noting, though, that these are generally the maximum anticipated wait times and the actual timescales can be much quicker, especially if the estate in question is small or simple. When estates are much more complex, it is not uncommon for a year to be the anticipated waiting period.
At the moment, it has been recognised by solicitors in Porthmadog that the longest part of the Probate process is the wait for approval. This step also currently takes roughly four to 15 weeks, depending on how the application has been submitted. Other parts of the process that are currently lengthy include the valuation of the assets or estate. Most of the delays at this point are currently caused by a lack of clarification about gifts left in a Will, or executors being unable to locate important paperwork or legal documents.
