A new report has shown there have been some shifts when it comes to estate planning in the United Kingdom.
Almost a quarter of a million anonymous Wills were examined during the production of this report, published by LEAP Estates, as well as a number of powers of attorney. Will writing solicitors in North Wales understand that as families become more complex, this has an impact on the ways in which assets might be distributed.
One of the key findings highlighted by the report is that more people are starting to plan their estate while they are still working. This is a shift from previous years, when it was shown that older people were far more likely to consider making a Will. There has also been an increase in the number of testators who include provisions in their Will directing loved ones on what should happen to their health and assets if they lose capacity.
Due to recent changes to financial structures outlined in the Autumn Budget of 2025, more people who are impacted by agricultural and business property relief now understand that a more flexible approach to estate planning is needed going forward and regular updates and checks will be needed in the future. Other issues identified include how blended families can sometimes result in feelings of exclusion if a Will is not updated after marriage, adoption or other familial changes.
