One of the cornerstones of the National Wills Report 2025 was to gather information to support the likes of Will writing solicitors in North Wales to help encourage more people to contribute to a ‘prepared society’ in relation to estate planning.
The data collected in this report has shown that fewer people are making a Will, but a higher proportion of those who are, are using appropriate legal support. A total of 70% of individuals who took the step to make their Will did so to make sure their assets were distributed in the way in which they wanted them. A smaller number, 43%, would take steps to update their Will if a life-changing event took place such as a marriage or divorce.
Several barriers were identified to those considering using Wills solicitors. Some of the most common reasons were a reluctance to discuss death and a general lack of knowledge on how to start the Will making process.
50% of people surveyed for the report stated that their Wills were properly stored with their solicitor, but simultaneously, it has been shown that almost 30% of those with a Will have not told their loved ones where this document is stored. This matter can potentially cause troubles in the future for family members of testators with missing Wills.
