The month of March is Free Wills Month in the United Kingdom. This campaign has been an annual event for many years, since 2005, and is one which many Wills writing solicitors in North Wales are aware of.
It is worth noting, however, that accessing this service is currently reserved only for people over 55 years old.
Free Wills Month is largely funded by a range of charities, so those eligible are often urged to leave a legacy for a charity when they make their Will, though this is not obligatory. However, it has been estimated that over £30,000,000 has been left in Wills to charities during this process. Only basic Wills are included in the scheme, but those older Will holders who want to update this document may also be suitable.
Although many appointments to see legal advisors to take advantage of this initiative are snapped up quickly, it can still be a time for those not eligible or unable to secure an appointment to think about their estate planning. It still stands that one in six people in the United Kingdom do not have a Will, so Free Will Month also encourages people to take action. The Free Will scheme also runs throughout October, with Wills will be at the forefront of many solicitors’ work in these months.
